Becomes Systems Integrator for Microsoft Windows CE
Spyglass Brings Significant Experience in Application Development for Windows CE
to Microsoft's Systems Integrator Program; Company Will Demonstrate Windows CE-Based
Technologies, Including Industry Favorite Mobile Forms Database 2.0, at Microsoft's
Conference This WeekSan Jose,
Calif. -- Monday, April 6, 1998 -- Citing the success of its Mobile Forms
Database product and the increasing customer demand for Windows CE-based applications and
expertise, Internet pioneer Spyglass (NASDAQ: SPYG) today announced it has become a
systems integrator for the Microsoft Windows CE operating system. Spyglass Mobile Forms
Database is a mobile database and forms data collection application for Handheld PCs
(H/PCs). As Spyglass is already actively engaged in a number of related projects for
Windows CE, the company saw joining the program as a logical extension of its current
business plan.
"By becoming a member of the systems integrator program
for Windows CE, Spyglass takes advantage of the terrific interest surrounding Windows CE
and the other services Microsoft offers," said Wayne Yurtin, Director of Business
Development for Spyglass. "We're finding the demand for Microsoft's Windows CE
operating system to be growing tremendously and joining its systems integrator program
will be a valuable asset for our customers using Windows CE-based devices."
Spyglass' California business unit, where the Mobile Forms
Database was created, has been specializing in development for Windows CE. Spyglass Mobile
Forms Database runs on all the latest Windows CE-based devices including the Philips Velo,
the HP 320LX, Casio's Cassiopeia, Compaq's PC Companion, LG's Phenom, and NEC's MobilePro.
The database allows users to create powerful handheld databases that fit the growing
mobile data collection needs.
"Spyglass has a wealth of experience and familiarity
with the Internet, advanced television, and development of Windows CE-based applications
on handheld computers. They are a valuable new member of our systems integrator for
Windows CE program," said Debryn Bear, group program manager in the Windows CE
product unit at Microsoft Corp. "Adding Spyglass to the program highlights the
momentum that is building for the Windows CE 2.0 operating system in the device and
embedded systems industries."
Attendees at the Microsoft Windows CE Developers Conference
this week will see Spyglass demonstrate its Mobile Forms Database for Windows CE 2.0-based
H/PCs and Spyglass Prism content conversion technology. The Windows CE Developers
Conference is being held here from April 6 - 8.
Spyglass Prism ensures that Internet access is both fast and
efficient when using wireless or standard modems with Windows CE-based devices. By
optimizing and compressing images, as well as converting HTML content in advance according
to the characteristics of each device, Spyglass Prism reduces the amount of data
transmitted so that content is displayed on the device from two to four times faster than
possible with unaided Internet access.
